It’s become a tradition for me to record something for my mom’s birthday, and this year it’s a Chopin Prelude, Opus 28, No. 6, Lento Assai, in in B minor.
This piece was one of three Chopin Preludes I performed in my first recital in 1976. The melody is in the left hand, although it sounded a bit more pronounced in person (due to where I had my phone when recording).
Interestingly enough, this prelude, along with No. 4 in E minor, was played on organ as Chopin’s coffin was carried away from the alter during his funeral.
You can look at all of the birthday piano posts.
