Thanksgiving

Hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving holiday. Jean (Melody's mom) and her husband Ron came over on Thursday for dinner and we all went over to Keith and Bev's house on Friday.

Baked Yams

Baked Yams

Thanksgiving dinner was pretty straightforward.  We roasted a capon (smaller than a turkey, larger than a chicken) on the grill and had cornbread and sausage stuffing, cranberry sauce, greens, and baked yams (pictured to the right; I've added the recipe to the site, too). Jean brought a squash pie, and after that we were all pleasantly full. The capon came out a bit underdone in spots (I had the thermometer not quite in the right place) but there was enough cooked meat to serve, and a touch of the microwave ensured we had enough dark meat to go around.

This morning breakfast was omelets with some diced leftover meat, cheese, and caramelized onions, a good way to use up leftover poultry.

Lost Lake

Lost Lake

On Friday we spent most of the day visiting the Winkles and went hiking to Lost Lake. The picture shows a boggy area near a walk-on dock where we stopped to have lunch. The hike started out pretty wet, but it got better as we neared the lake. We stayed pretty dry on the way back, and were completely warmed up soon after we returned to the house where the wood stove was cranking out lots of heat.

After we returned to Seattle we polished off the rest of the pie and were ready to call it a night.
