Mid-week in Downey

Another day has passed, and it's hard to believe our trip here is more than half over. We stayed inside the store for the bulk of the day so we were spared the heat.

I continued working on inventory, but today moved over to pencils. There was a lot of making sure things were in the right bins, as well as straightening out the stock in the back room. It's amazing how many different kinds of pencils there: different shapes, hardness, shapes, and colors, combined with different brands.

Kellen and Josie framing

Kellen and Josie tried their hand in the frame shop today. They started out on an order for the Port of Long Beach which involved taking maps out of frames and swapping in new maps. Later they started working on a restoration of a framed picture which had broken glass and non-archival materials.

Kellen and Sumi at Dal Rae

After work we joined my Aunt Haru and my cousins Sherry and Charlie and Roger and Grace for dinner at Dal Rae, a very nice steak house in Pico Rivera. Kellen ordered one of the restaurant's signature dishes, pepper steak, and I had a very nice Osso Buco. Kellen, Josie, and I split a crème brûlée and a chocolate soufflé for dessert. All the food was very tasty, and it was nice to spend my birthday with family.
