Read MoreFor our last full day in Texas, we went to Natural Bridge Caverns and had a quiet rest of the day. Even so, we made the most of the day.
Read MoreEclipse day! We were watching the chance of clouds continuing to rise, but as long as it wasn’t raining, we would still try to take a look. In the afternoon, we saw the Alamo and walked a bit on the San Antonio River Walk.
Read MoreFor our other full day in Houston, we spent the bulk of the day with Lindsay, Joe, and Noah. It started with lunch at the Farmers Market, then a walk through the Houston Arboretum, then snacks and dinner. After saying goodbye, we tried to see bats emerging at sunset.
Read MoreAfter everyone got up and had breakfast, we went to Hermann Park to view the Japanese Garden, the Centennial Garden, and other parts of the grounds. After stopping by the Rothko Chapel, we went back for lunch and hung out. Lindsay and her family spent some of the afternoon and dinnertime with us, where we celebrated her and her baby's birthdays.

I do have cousins in Ohio and Indiana in or near the path of totality, but it occurred to me that I also have a cousin in Texas whom I haven’t seen for several years. The fact that it could be likely that the chances of good weather seemed good, I asked the kids if they were interested. Hearing “Yes” all around, a plan started to form.
Read MoreThis was the day of the last leg of our trip. Unlike the flight to Halifax, this time we had daylight for the whole flight, so where there wasn’t cloud cover, we saw a lot of out the plane window.

Read MoreWe drove a sizable segment of the Cabot Trail. Along the way, we did a few hikes, including one that gave us a great view of fog and another where we got very wet.

Read MoreIt was time to go back to Nova Scotia, this time to Cape Breton Island. We first took the ferry, then drove a couple of hours to the middle of the island to go through the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site.
Read MoreFor our first full day on Prince Edward Island, we again went east to see the Greenwich Dunes in Prince Edward Island National Park. After a relaxing afternoon, we went to a lobster dinner in New Glasgow.
Read MoreThis was mostly a driving day as we left New Brunswick and arrived on Prince Edward Island. We went to the southeast to Basin Head Beach, then to the far east to see the East Point Lighthouse.
Read MoreAfter leaving St. Martins, we went to Cape Enrage to look at the lighthouse and stroll along a beach with fossils. We then went to Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park and saw many sea stacks. Finally, we drove to Moncton, where we are spending the next couple of nights.
Read MoreFor our only full day in St. Martins, we went to Fundy National Park to do a couple of waterfall hikes and walked around a pond. Later, we drove through a pair of covered bridges in St. Martins.
Read MoreWe left Nova Scotia for now, taking a ferry across the Bay of Fundy to New Brunswick. Before doing that, we went over to the Gilbert's Cove lighthouse, then hung out in Digby while waiting for the ferry.
Read MoreFor our last full day in Annapolis Royal, we drove over to Cape Split Provincial Park to hike out to Cape Split. While the other hikes we've done on this trip have been short, this one was what would be a normal full-day hike for us.
